The perfect storm or the perfect harvest?
Hello friends of the vine,
It hath begun. Harvest is indeed upon us. What a rocky road it has been this season. We started Spring with one of the warmest March's on record then slipped into a cold, wet April, May, and June. Follow this up with a mild summer and a less than impressive fall, us vintners were left praying to Baccus. Please do not despair! The vine is wiser than us all. Her fruit may have low sugars and high acids but oh what flavors. Nearly every winemaker we have spoken with has commented on this same thing. After all it is not high alcohol we are looking for, that the high sugars bring. We want the berries to sing "pick us, pick us, we are ready".
We already have some Tempranillo in to make our first rose. This week we will pull in Pinot Gris, Merlot and the rest of our Tempranillo. Our equipment is working great. It is always a challenge breaking in a new facility but everything runs like a seasoned pro.
We wanted to thank everyone who came to the Salsa Under the Stars event on the 10th of September. It was such fun we are already making plans to make it an annual event. Next up is fall release weekend November 5th, 6th and 7th. We will have live Flamenco music and tapas.
Our new wine club releases will be the 2008 Rosebud Vineyard Tempranillo, and the 2008 Adentro. The Adentro is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc. This wine hails from the Walla Walla Valley. Our latest taste of the Adentro yielded a rich and smooth wine. As I have said before I never write news letters without a glass of wine by my side. I am tasting the 2008 Tempranillo that is to be released. Hummm, raspberries, black current, fennel, and coco butter are all words used to describe this wine. Balanced acidity and a nice finish make this a great wine worthy of setting down in the cellar. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, we only have a few bottles of the 2007 Miercoles floating 2008 Miercoles Red Wine around. We have already moved onto the 2008 model. Stop by and give it a try. If you still must have the 2007 beg and we might find you a bottle or two but I assure you the 2008 is at least as good as its predecessor, if not better.

We are pleased to introduce to you Katie our newest addition to Castillo de Feliciana Winery. Katie comes to us from Ellensburg where she graduated with a four year degree in Wine Sciences. She will be our Tasting room Manager. She is also experienced in wine making. She obtained her associates degree from the Walla Walla School of Viteculture and Enology. We hope to use her nose and taste buds to help us create some beautiful wines.
We would also like to introduce you to Chris Castillo! Our son. He recently applied and has been accepted to the Walla Walla School of Viteculture and Enology. We are so happy that he has chosen this path. We will be looking forward to his wine making skills. He will be putting in some hours at the winery

Not a bad winter! That's about all i can say. Our vineyards were spared that bitter cold that sometimes takes a vine or two away from us but fortunately not this year. Yesterday was the first day of spring and we are definately welcoming it! Over the winter we acquired our new bottling system and put it to work just last weekend. We managed to do over 700 cases in just two days. We had a great time! Thank you Sergio, Nora, Erassmo, and Deb for your hard work. We bottled our 2009 Pinot Grigio, and our non-vintage Tempranillo. They will be ready for spring release in May. Also over the winter we have been looking at other equipment to compliment our winery processing area.
